Each year in late April early May, the town steps into the spotlight for the annual Koroit Irish Festival. It is a celebration of not only the town's rich Irish heritage, but also of its identity as a tight-knit community.
Like the rest of the world, Koroit has faced the challenge of a global pandemic, with most community gatherings and events cancelled during 2020 and the early part of 2021.
But there is joy in this green and pleasant land, with the 2021 Koroit Irish Festival going ahead, with a COVIDSafe plan creating a roadmap for a fun and safe event.
There will be changes to the festival to meet COVID restrictions, but the organising community, with the support of the community, believes the spirit of the event will still shine through and those who attend will walk away having enjoyed all that is good about the festival, and the town.
Like all things during a pandemic, the landscape can change in a heartbeat. This speil has been written weeks out from the Festival, so things could have changed by the time you are reading this.
Some things, including the festival, may be sold out, others may be cancelled, unfortunately as good as Koroit is, we don't have a crystal ball.
But no matter what, mark the weekend of April 30 - May 2 on the calendar to come and check out Koroit. We are confident you will come back again, for the joys of not only the festival but also the community and town that we call home.
