The week began with wild weather which saw a Ballarat family rescued from Griffiths Island after dangerous surf conditions left them trapped.
Pressure mounted on the state government to fund the long talked about "urgent" repairs to Warrnambool's breakwater after the weekend's large storm swells damaged the 130-year-old structure.
Two south-west surfers say they became seriously ill and required hospitalisation after surfing at The Passage over the Easter long weekend. The popular surf spot has now been closed and water testing is underway by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning after a brown sludge was detected.
And there's hardly a spare bed in Warrnambool for the May Racing Carnival as accommodation providers report full bookings after last year's carnival was held without a crowd for the first time in history due to coronavirus restrictions.
In sport, south-west athletes Grace Kelly, Caytlyn Sharp and Emily Morden won medals at the national championships in their individual events.
Warrnambool and District Umpires association has put the call out for new umpires as the club reports they are in desperate need of new members.
And finally, leading trainer Symon Wilde is lobbying Racing Victoria to lift the prizemoney at the Warrnambool May Racing Carnival next month.
