The Koroit forward has booted nine majors from two matches - a five-goal haul against South Warrnambool and a four-goal showing against Portland - and is showing no signs of slowing down.
McLaren said Dobson, a former Geelong VFL talent, was in great touch.
"He started (the 2019 season) in form like this too," McLaren said.

"He then copped a really bad corkie just before the interleague break. He pushed pretty hard to get back in time for that and I think he ended up missing six or seven weeks as that corkie hampered him a bit.
"He's had a good pre-season and he's just a superstar. He's a very good player and he's one we've been able to get up the ground a bit.
"He finished the game against Portland (on Saturday) playing ruck rover in the last quarter as a part of our rotations.
"Coming back from a year off it's good to keep challenging players and give them new looks at it." McLaren said Sam's brother, Ben, was looming as an inclusion in coming weeks. "He's not far away," McLaren said.
"We're looking forward to getting him back in the side. They're great players."
Koroit will play Terang Mortlake at Victoria Park on Saturday. Brett Harrington and Taylor Mckenry are working to prove their fitness after slight injuries at Portland.
Dylan McCutcheon, meanwhile, was concussed.
