Jamieson Street Girls Auskick Centre after players for new season

Coordinator Alicia Drew said the Jamieson Street Girls Auskick Centre will kick off its season on Friday April 23. Warrnambool Primary School will host the eight sessions, starting from 4.30pm, until June 4.

Drew said the centre wasn't exclusive to the school's students and was aimed at players five to 12 years old.

She said the centre would be an inclusive and welcoming environment for the next generation of female footballers.

"We're looking to give girls their first exposure into football and we want to get a really good gang down there," she said. "We'll have a welcoming and friendly environment for them to have their first go at Auskick."

Drew said sessions would go for about an hour and involve a number of different games to help build the players skills and introduce them to the game.

"There will be ball games and some fun activities with footballs, " she said.

"The focus is not on doing drills but more things around spatial awareness and the fundamentals of the game."

Drew said the centre had good relationships with clubs with senior and junior female football teams.

"We get players to come along and quite often they get them involved too," she said.

"We tell the little ones that we'll have real footballers come along and help. We have good rapport with a lot of players and they come give me a hand."

Drew encouraged the parents of players to also get involved with the program and lend a helping hand at sessions.
