There are familiar names, new faces and some handy AFL talent running around this season.
Alex Pulling
Club: Koroit
Position: Wing
Verdict: The speedy midfielder is looking to back up a best and fairest season in 2019.
Is one of the top kicks and a vital player in the Saints' side. Can also hit the scoreboard and is set for another top year.
Jason Rowan
Club: Warrnambool
Position: Full-forward
Verdict: One of the league's most prolific goal-kickers is back where he made his name as one of the best forwards in the region.
Is strong around the contest, has pace, is an incredible mark and kick for goal. It's hard to not sit back and admire the big Blue in full flight.
Liam Hoy
Club: Koroit
Position: Midfield
Verdict: The Saints' new skipper is a proven match-winner and one of the competition's top midfielders.
Have seen him as a multiple premiership player and Hampden interleague representative but now we'll see him as the leader of his club. Leads by example and gives 110 per cent week in, week out.
Cam Spence
Club: Camperdown
Position: Midfielder
Verdict: Back in the Hampden league and at his home club after spending a year with NEAFL outfit Redland.
The line-breaking on-baller has taken on an assistant coaching position and will be a better play for taking on the role.
Darcy Graham
Club: Warrnambool
Position: Midfielder
Verdict: Making his return from an ACL injury he suffered while preparing for his first season with NEAFL outfit Redland. Back at his home club and ready to make a big impact.
The 2018 Maskell Medal runner-up was tearing it up before the cancelled 2020 season and will benefit from another year off to strengthen his knee.
Ricky Henderson
Club: South Warrnambool
Position: Midfielder
Verdict: The former Hawthorn and Adelaide winger bolsters the Roosters' midfield brigade.
His AFL resume says enough about the quality of player Mat Battistello's has recruited for his side.
The recently retired Hawk and Crow's elite speed and long kicking are his biggest assets.
Sam Cowling
Club: Warrnambool
Position: Forward
Verdict: A big centre-half forward with a strong mark and great kick for goal.
Also a great leader which he has shown at Warrnambool and with the Bottle Greens.
Eager to see how the combination between he and Rowan blossoms.
Andy McMeel
Club: Port Fairy
Position: Midfielder
Verdict: Another face returning to the Hampden league.
Returns to the competition form Russells Creek with two Warrnambool and District league best and fairests under his belt. Has elite disposal and a big tank.
Expect big things from him as a leader in the engine room of a young Seagulls' side.
Shannon Beks
Club: South Warrnambool
Position: Full-forward
Verdict: A mobile key forward with a strong overhead mark and a big tank. Is capable of kicking bags of goals.
With players like James Hussey, Josh Saunders, Ricky Henderson and Louis Herbert delivering the footy from the midfield it makes Beks an even more exciting player to watch when at full flight.
Jye Turland
Club: Warrnambool
Position: Midfield/forward
Verdict: The Maskell Medal winner is set for another big year and will be one of the competition's best again.
Is small in stature but makes a big impact for his side all over the ground.
Has shown is prowess around goal wasn't impacted by his move into the midfield after booting 28 majors in 2019.
Shane Savage
Club: Port Fairy
Position: Defender
Verdict: A booming right footer with 165 AFL games under his belt.
Is going to bring a lot of excitement for fans when he hovers around the arc for one of his trademark long goals.
James Hussey
Club: South Warrnambool
Position: Midfielder
Verdict: A strong and tough midfielder who is eager to help take his club back to premiership glory. Has spent time in the VFL playing with Werribee.
Before returning to Friendlies he spent his last few seasons in Geelong with Newcombe.
Dion Johnstone
Club: North Warrnambool Eagles
Position: Forward/defender
Verdict: A hard-tackling small forward or half-back flanker who has spent time with Melbourne in the AFL as well as Casey Demons and Port Melbourne in the VFL.
Back at his home club eager to make an impact on and off the field.
Tim McIntyre
Club: Koroit
Position: Forward
Verdict: A big-game player who can play a role in the midfield or forward line. Has a big tank and is a big threat around goals.
Will enjoy being back playing his football with the Saints after spending time with Barwon Heads in the Bellarine Football League.
Lachie Waddell
Club: Hamilton Kangaroos
Position: Utility
Verdict: A Port Melbourne premiership player who has worked closely with highly-rated VFL coach Gary Ayres.
Was a forward and ruck before making the move to defence during his time with Borough. Is a strong mark and good in contests.
Louis Herbert
Club: South Warrnambool
Position: Utility
Verdict: A high quality player who will relish being back amongst mates.
Has played at AFL level with Gold Coast and also with North Ballarat Roosters and Geelong Football League powerhouse South Barwon.
Jake Edwards
Club: Portland
Position: Midfielder
Verdict: A proven top grade player at Hanlon Park who returns with more senior football under his belt from his two seasons with Avondale Heights in the Essendon District Football League.
A good inside midfielder who gives his all.
Tyler Murnane
Club: Cobden
Position: Midfielder
Verdict: Has a very high football IQ. Plays as an inside midfielder and will be a good addition to the Bombers' ranks.
Has strength around the footy, a high skill level and experience playing at GFL level with Colac.
Dylan Parish
Club: North Warrnambool Eagles
Position: Forward
Verdict: The former Eagles' best and fairest winner returns after taking time away from the game. Will form a strong forward line alongside Adam Wines,
Jarryd Lewis and Jordan Dillon. The four-time Horsham premiership player has the capability to kick bags of goals.
Joe Arundell
Club: Terang Mortlake
Position: Forward/defender
Verdict: The Bloods' reigning best-and-fairest winner is entering the peak of his career.
Capable of making a mark at either end of the ground. Will be a key cog in a side which will be well-drilled.
