Drug dealer films himself with wads of cash, pointing firearm from moving car

Daniel Madden, 22, appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Monday charged with drug trafficking, possessing an imitation firearm and possessing a firearm as a prohibited person.

The court heard his mobile phone was uncovered in December last year during a raid at a property in Koroit's High Street.

An analysis of the phone allegedly uncovered messages relating to the sale of cannabis, a note with lists of people's names and money they owed, and photos and videos of Madden pointing a handgun out the window of a moving vehicle.

There were also allegedly videos of Madden consuming drugs and waving around wads of cash, the court heard.

Invoices, which included prices for half-grams and point-amounts of drugs, were also allegedly on the phone.

Madden pleaded guilty to the charges on Monday.

But at the tail end of the hearing, he rejected magistrate Peter Mellas' statement that the was "running a business" by selling drugs and the matter was adjourned for his lawyer Ian Pugh to obtain more information.

Madden, who has already spent more than 90 days in custody, was further remanded to appear in court at a later date.

The magistrate said Madden was a man with a concerning criminal history, who had received "a number of opportunities" to complete community corrections orders but had failed every time.

"He hasn't learnt from his experiences and hasn't modified his behaviour," he said.

Mr Mellas said he hadn't heard of many people providing as much evidence of a drug-trafficking business as Madden, including the tick lists and invoices on his phone.

He questioned whether Madden sent the videos of himself with the imitation handgun to clients in order to enforce debts.

A police prosecutor said the videos were located on the phone but there was no evidence of them being sent to another party.
