He missed out on the chance to mentor in 2020 with no season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Mermaids and Seahawks will play their first home games of the division one season on Saturday.
The Mermaids play Western Port in round two at 6.30pm while the Seahawks will tip-off at 8pm against Southern Peninsula at The Arc.
Assistant Jono Carroll stood in for Primmer last week as the head coach was on holidays in Queensland.
Primmer won't be the only addition on Saturday with the experienced Kat Aitken back on court while teenager Cigi Lual will make her debut.
Cigi - the younger sister of fellow Mermaid, Juina - is just 14 and adds height to the team.
Primmer said he and Carroll discussed last week's 85-46 loss.
He said the stats sheet indicated the Mermaids' didn't shoot well and were outrebounded.
"If we can get those things sorted, straight away we'll be 25 points better," he said.
Primmer said the Mermaids now had four 14 year olds in its 12-player squad.
He knows they're a youthful group but doesn't want to harp on about that.
"Even though we are very young, we can't keep using that as an excuse for the season," he said.
