A police spokesman said wallets, electronics and personal items were taken from two unlocked cars in Warrnambool's George Street overnight Saturday and one in Port Fairy overnight Friday.

"There is an ongoing issue with vehicle owners leaving their cars unlocked," he said.

"We urge all vehicle owners to lock their cars, even if they're parked in their driveways or on nature strips.

"Valuables should not be left in cars at any time and if they are those items should be secured out of sight in the boot or glovebox.

"These are crimes of opportunity and removing the opportunity goes a long way to eliminating these offences ever happening."

The offences come after similar offending in Warrnambool and Port Fairy during the past fortnight.

Previously police have warned of offenders involved in "creeping" - walking the streets in an attempt to find unlocked vehicles by trying the door handles of all cars.

That often leads to a spate of thefts from vehicles in localised areas.

But, the introduction of more security camera footage is a way of combating such offending and identifying offenders.

Anyone with footage of people walking the streets at night - such as in Warrnambool's George Street overnight on Saturday - is requested to contact the Warrnambool police station on 5560 1333 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
