Detective Senior Constable Joe Fisher, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said there had been seven unlocked vehicles raided, six in the Jehu Street and Powling Street area and another at Railway Place.
"Every single vehicle was unlocked. There were wallets and purses taken overnight last Friday with one offence committed between 7pm and 8pm Friday evening," he said.
"We are asking people to ensure they lock their vehicles and homes. Don't leave valuables in their cars and certainly don't leave them visible.
"These are crimes of opportunity and if we remove the opportunity it goes a long way to preventing such offences."
Detective Senior Constable Fisher said there were also burglaries at homes under construction in Whalers Drive and Norfolk Place.
"Expensive power tools were taken from those construction sites overnight on Wednesday, February 10," he said.
"We are also asking if anyone living in the Elizabeth Street area saw anything suspicious overnight on the same night.
"Again we are requesting that anyone with CCTV check their footage to see if there was anything suspicious in those areas that night.
"Anyone with information is requested to contact the Warrnambool police station CIU or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," he said.
