Killarney firing on all cylinders in Grassmere Cricket Association

The Crabs defeated three-time reigning champions Hawkesdale by five wickets in the association's top grade on Saturday.

Coach Brendan Chatfield, who helped guide the side home with an unbeaten 49, said the victory over the Cats was encouraging for his side.

"It was a good all-round performance," the playing mentor told The Standard.

"Everything worked well for us. We batted in partnerships and bowled well to restrict them to 150, which is pretty good.

"We felt we have been playing well in the last few weeks. We played pretty well against Grassmere (in the round 10 win) and Wangoom (in round 12).

"Things are starting to come together and we have got ourselves in form which is pretty good."

Chatfield said confidence was sky-high at the club ahead of the association's last final series, after the GCA decided to pull up stumps at the end of the season.

"We now have the belief we can match it with the top sides and aren't there just making up the numbers," he said.

"There is always areas we want to try to improve like with dropped catches and leaking runs in the field.

"I think Saturday was one of our best all-round performances so there is not too many issues. We just need to keep building on it."

Chatfield praised Brandon Finn, Jason Hutchins and Daniel Jones who stood up in the absence of Stuart Hill and the injured Brayden Buchanan. The Crabs play Grassmere in the final round.

In the association's other matches fifth-placed Wangoom scored an upset victory over finals-bound Grassmere.

Yambuk extended its lead on top of the ladder with a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Mailors Flat-Woolsthorpe.
