A man in his 90s man had to seek hospital treatment after being bitten by a dog similar to a pitbull terrier on Saturday afternoon in what police described as a disturbing attack.

Portland police Sergeant Sean Elliott said witnesses were being sought after the attack near the corner of Patrick Street and Wellington Road about 4pm Saturday.
He said the 91-year-old man was walking in the area when an unknown man aged about 30 and his dog approached from the opposite direction.
"The dog has bitten the elderly man and the owner has just kept walking," he said.
"It was pretty callous not to offer to assist the injured elderly victim.
"The dog is described as similar to a pitbull with tan features. The owner was about 30, caucasian, about 175cms tall and wearing black clothing."
Sergeant Elliott said the elderly man was taken to hospital for assessment and treatment.
"It's a pretty disturbing attack," he said.,
"Anyone with information is requested to contact the Portland police station on 5522 1500 or via Crime Stoppers, which can be done anonymously on 1800 333 000," he said.
