Nutrien Harcourts agent Simon Henderson said the three bedroom home on Queens Road was sold to a local tradesman.
Mr Henderson said there were about 30 people at the auction and 11 bids submitted, with the property going for $293,000.
The bidding opened with an offer of $270,000, Mr Henderson said.
"There was strong interest," he said.
"It was a good result for both the vendor and the buyer."
Mr Henderson said the sale was an indication the city's property market was strong.
The home is set on a 612-square-metre block.
