Matthew Nelson, Charles Stewart, Colac, said there was strong competition from Camperdown, Ballarat and northern Victoria.
He agreed with Shelby Howard, Charles Stewart Dove, that the 800 head yarding was one of the dearest sales the yard had seen.
"The cattle were very good, on a very good season," Mr Nelson said.
"There were a couple of pens going into the feedlots, but they were mostly restockers, we had a good run of weaner cattle, those early autumn drop calves coming in.
"We sold Murray Grey steers up to 620cents/kilogram, which was a fraction over 200kg."

Mr Nelson said the lighter steers steers made from 550c/kg up to 620c/kg, while heavier weaner calves made between 500-550c/kg.
The heavy end of the heifers made up to 450c/kg, while females from 270-300kg sold for up to 500c/kg "in places.
"The best made up to 549c/kg."
Gippsland buyers did not attend.
The sale was interfaced with StockLive, which he said went very well.
Mr Howard said the cattle presented very well, with a good run of young weaner cattle.
"What I really liked was a good run of 320-400kg heifers, they took my eye," Mr Howard said.
"The heifers presented in a little bit more forward condition, than the steers, just on body fat, but certainly an outstanding run."
He said cows and calves sold to a top of more than $3000.
"It was a solid sale, a solid sale, right the way through."
He said many of the pens of "smart" heifers would go back in the paddock, for joining.
"We saw that several times," Mr Howard said.
Lighter calves were "absolutely crazy - it was one of the best sales I have seen here, in Colac."
"It's just the sign of the times, it hasn't got too hot yet, which is of benefit to this country here."
Feedlots, such as Amaroo, were present, with local agents to the fore, for restockers.
Phil Douglas, Nutrien Ag Solutions, said while sales over the last few months had been very strong, they could not be compared to this month's auction.
"The heifers were almost at the same rates as the steers, and they were a good quality line up of cattle, too," Mr Douglas said.
"It's the first time the weaner cattle have started to be offered.
"You couldn't complain, jeez it was good."
Weaner steers and heifers were purchased to feed on, by both feedlotters and grass finishers.
"Everyone had a go," Mr Douglas said.
