The region's top football exports played in front of no crowds and were part of hubs in a strange 2020 season. The Standard's Sean Hardeman rates how they went.
Jeremy Cameron
Team: GWS
2020 Games: 17
Season score: D
Verdict: The star Giant wasn't at the best we have seen of him in previous seasons.
Cameron only managed to kick 24 goals this season despite playing every game his lowest season total since his first in 2012 when he kicked 29 goals from one less game.
Cedric Cox
Team: Brisbane
2020 Games: 0
Season score: C
Verdict: Struggled to get an opportunity in a settled Brisbane side that was flying towards a preliminary final.
Has requested a trade home to Western Australia for family reasons.
Josh Corbett
Team: Gold Coast
2020 Games: seven
Season score: B+
Verdict: A Strong second year for the emerging key forward as he cemented his spot in Stewie Dew's side.
The 24-year-old returned to the side in round 11 and never looked back, adding seven games to his previous total of eight.
The high-flying Sun kicked three goals and averaged 4.4 marks a game, which is classified as elite for big forwards.
Ben Cunnington
Team: North Melbourne
2020 Games: Three
Season score: D
Verdict: Not the season the star Kangaroo would have been hoping for with a back injury ending his season early into North's campaign.
Two of his three games came in the opening two rounds where he was at his elite best before the injury ended his season after round five.
Sean Darcy
Team: Fremantle
2020 Games: 15
Season score: A
Verdict: Took over the number one ruck role seamlessly after Aaron Sandilands retirement.
The big Docker played 15 games and showed he is developing nicely into one of the competition's premier tap ruckman.
Scored another selection in the AFLPA 22-under-22.
Willem Drew
Team: Port Adelaide
2020 Games: 0
Season score: C
Verdict: Another south-west football export who was struck down by injury this season and by a lack of chance in a team that was firing.
However, the emerging midfielder has committed to stay at Alberton until 2022 after signing a contract extension earlier this year.
Marty Gleeson
Team: Essendon
2020 Games: 13
Season score: C
Verdict: A decent year from the reliable Bomber stopper.
Played consistently in the senior side and was a key part of the Bombers' defence.
Didn't play in the opening two rounds but returned after the Covid-enforced break to only miss two games.
Jamaine Jones
Team: West Coast
2020 Games: two
Season score: B
Verdict: A good start to life over in the west before a serious hamstring injury ended his season.
Was a factor in helping the Eagles turn around their poor early season form in the Gold Coast hub.
Zach Merrett
Team: Essendon
2020 Games: 16
Season score: B+
Verdict: One of the Bombers' best in what was a down season. Continued to show why he is one of the best midfielders in the competition.
Was elite in a number of his averages and should continue his consistent rise again next season.
Rowan Marshall
Team: St Kilda
2020 Games: 19
Season score: A
Verdict: The emerging Saints big man continued his strong form despite the introduction of Paddy Ryder to the side this season.
Another top finish in the Saints' best and fairest capped off his consistent year as he played finals for the first time.
Hugh McCluggage
Team: Brisbane
2020 Games: 19
Season score: A+
Verdict: Another outstanding year from one of the competition's premier wingmen.
Selected again in the 22-under-22 side and in the 40-man All-Australian squad.
Was a pivotal part of the Lions surge to a preliminary final.
Again showed how consistent a player he has become since entering the system.
Jay Rantall
Team: Collingwood
2020 Games: 0
Season score: C
Verdict: Unable to break into a strong Magpies' midfield as the club surged to a semi-final.
Showed a lot in pre-season and will have learnt a lot from the first season in the system.
Gary Rohan
Team: Geelong
2020 Games: 19
Season score: B
Verdict: Played almost every game this season but ultimately fell just short of claiming a premiership that has now eluded him twice.
He kicked 22 goals, including three in the preliminary final to help the Cats make the grand final.
Overall it was an up and down season but with consistent games under his belt his confidence should get a nice boost.
Lewis Taylor
Team: Sydney
2020 Games: Nine
Season score: C
Verdict: An inconsistent first year in Sydney for the former Rising Star winner.
Played the first four games before losing his spot in the side, returning for two more in round eight and nine before three more in the later parts of the season.
Will hope to get more consistency in 2021 as the Swans aim to rise back up the ladder.
Sam Walsh
Team: Carlton
2020 Games: 17
Season score: A+
Verdict: Was criticised early on as his fellow second-year counterparts started strongly but his second half of the season showed why he is a former number one pick and deserved rising star winner.
Was one of the Carlton's best as they pushed for finals.
A handy bonus for a good year was winning mark of the year for his courageous mark against Port Adelaide in round seven.
Easton Wood
Team: Western Bulldogs
2020 Games: 13
Season score: C
Verdict: Not the 2016 premiership skippers best season with injury and inconsistent form limiting his impact for the Dogs this season.
Still played a role in helping Luke Beveridge's side return to finals for the second consecutive year. Expect him to bounce back next year to his intercept marking best.
