Fifth-placed Terang tried desperately to upset defending champion Gold, sitting second on the ladder, to earn a spot in finals.
But the talented Gold proved too strong, producing three winning rinks to triumph 85-56.
Skipper Denise Hillier escaped Gwen Lock 24-19, Joan Stevenson outclassed Jean Fidge 30-13 and Chris McMahon toppled Margaret Sumner 31-21.
Shirley Brown, who played third for Hillier, said it was a tough day.
“It was very windy and cold in the morning which always makes it hard,” she said.
“The sun came out in the afternoon but there was still a cold wind.”
Brown and her rink-mates Hillier, Bev Wallace and Helen Madden have lost one rink this season.
But they faced some fierce competition against Lock yesterday.
“They were out there to win,” Brown said.
“It was fairly close all day and they were up by a shot at lunchtime. It could have gone either way.
“But we managed to come together after lunch.”
Brown said concentration was the key to Hillier’s consistency. “We’ve had a very good season,” she said. “The four of us support each other and we don’t take our minds off the job.”
Gold’s win maintained its second spot behind Warrnambool Gold, who defeated Timboon 78-56.
City Green wraps up its stunning home-and-away season in third, after defeating Warrnambool Blue 92-52 at Timor Street yesterday.
Port Fairy narrowly held onto its finals ticket despite dropping a rink and escaping City Blue 70-68. Meanwhile, division two had a big shake-up with all positions changing in the top four.
Dennington jumped into top spot after defeating previous ladder leader Mortlake by a shot, while third-ranked Koroit dropped out of the finals running altogether when it was swamped by City Pink 91-43.
Pink jumped from fourth sport to second, while Mortlake slipped to third.
Warrnambool Green was promoted to fourth by beating Port Fairy 71-64.
Division three was also full of surprises, as St John’s Red surrendered its top position when it lost to bottom side City Memorial 64-34.
Warrnambool Red took first place with its tight win over Timboon 48-46.
Port Fairy held its third spot but booted Lawn Tennis out of fourth with a 50-38 victory.
St John White clawed its way from fifth to fourth with a 61-25 win against Warrnambool White.
