A new river path along the Hopkins River to link Deakin University with the city is high on the priority list for Warrnambool City Council candidate Cassandra Prigg.

The uni student said she first started making a bit of noise about it is 2018 when she first started her studies at the Warrnambool campus.
"As someone who was reliant on public transport, it was quite difficult to get to campus," she said.
She said the bus services was not regular enough.
"I have actually had to walk to campus from Gateway when I got on the wrong bus, or got the bus late, and it's not easy. There's no path. You have to cross the railway line tracks. It's not really safe," she said.
"If you choose to cycle in, you basically have no choice but to go along the highway and there's no bike lane on that section of highway."
Ms Prigg said it would solve a number of issues if there was a walking/cycling track to Deakin University.
"We pride ourselves on being an environmentally minded campus. The majority of students have to drive to campus as it is," she said.
She said she envisioned the path would follow the river.
"There's potentially some issues with that with some of the properties going all the way down to the waterfront," she said.
"It's something that hopefully the Deakin community and council can get behind and do some work with the owners of those properties."
Ms Prigg said it would be a win-win situation for both the community and those that lives along the river.
She said she envisioned it would follow the river from Deakin to Proudfoots.
Ms Prigg said there had already been some exploratory work done by the council and it was now a matter of funding and political will to get the project up.
