WDCA chairperson Gordon McLeod said finals would now be contested by six sides with the top two to receive a bye in week one. Positions three to six will battle in qualifying finals.
The final round of the season will be one-dayers with the start of the finals, which is two-dayers, the following week. Division two finals will begin the week before the division one finals kick off.
He added division three could also have six teams contesting finals. The association is waiting for the confirmation of teams before a decision is made.
"It has been something that has been talked about for a while now and more teams now have an opportunity to play finals and everyone who plays wants to play in finals," he said.
"The talk around the competition is there will be increased numbers in division three and division two will be an interesting competition.
"With new teams in it I think it will be a big challenge to be in the top six. It should be very competitive."
Division two will play a 14-round season which begins on October 31. Eight of those rounds are one-dayers, three twenty20s and three two-dayers. All teams have a scheduled bye.
Division three will start a week later on a Sunday. They will return to Saturdays on November 21 when division one and two both play on turf wickets.
