Amish Boy finished just over a length behind Crosshaven in the prelude and Maher, who trains in partnership with David Eustace, is confident the colt will run out a strong 1600 metres in the Caulfield Guineas.
"Amish Boy has a good action and a wonderful attitude for a three-year-old colt," he said.
"I think he's looking for the 1600 metres now. He's had the two runs from a spell and is on track to run a solid 1600 metres."

Junipal defeated Shot Of Irish by more then three lengths with Exasperate back in third spot in the 1700 metre race.
Maher told The Standard he was excited with the win of Junipal, who has scored five victories from his 21 starts.
"We want to get Junipal into the Toorak," he said.
"I think he deserves a crack at the Toorak. He's won his last two and is going super. I thought his win was great.
"We're hoping the handicapper (Greg Carpenter) will lift his ratings on the back of Saturday's win.
"We've got to get his rating up to run in the Toorak.
"It would help his chances if he gets a bit of give in the track for the Toorak."
