The knockout tournament will be held before Christmas with a date yet to be confirmed.
"It'll just be done during the week and we're working through the finer details of that," operations manager Fraser Lucas said.
Lucas said the idea had been well received by clubs.
"We've never held it mid-week before but with how the dates line up, it's made it harder to free up a weekend to hold the twenty20 over a weekend," he said.
"But I think all the clubs are in favour of trialing mid-week games.
"I think it's good to try something new for the association and clubs."

Last summer the twenty20 cup was held on the weekend of January 11 and 12, with Mortlake the winning team.
The operations manager said it would be ideal for each club to have one team in the competition.
But Lucas said the executive was open to clubs requesting to have more than one team.
"Some clubs might want to give their players an extra opportunity to play, some clubs might want to test their juniors..." he said.
"It offers a bit more flexibility and opportunity."
Lucas said overall the association wanted to offer players opportunities to get on the oval, in what's been a tough year with the coronavirus pandemic.
"The biggest thing for us is balance and normality and also factoring in the (coronavirus) conditions we're dealing with," he said.
The SWC top-division one-day competition will commence on October 17.
The division one season will be 18 rounds with each team playing 16 matches and having two byes.
