The injured lightweight always looked unlikely to make an impact after breaking a bone in his foot.
Weeks after winning gold in the lightweight eight at the world championships in Slovenia, Bertrand was confined to a moon boot and was doubtful about his chances for Olympic selection.

Rowing Australia yesterday reduced the squad of 66 to 55 after four days of trials on the Nepean River and the Sydney International Regatta Centre from December 15-18. Warrnambool’s Kathryn Ross held her spot in the adaptive squad and remains on track to compete in the London Paralympics.
