Midfield Meat said last week it was on the verge of closing its doors because of the government-imposed restrictions.
The government confirmed late Tuesday conversations were continuing with the company and the Australia Meat Industry Council after introducing health restrictions to temporarily cut abattoir workforces by a third.
"We are aware of the issues raised by Midfield Meat," a government spokeswoman said.
"The government is working closely with them and the broader meat industry as a priority to minimise workforce reduction impacts whilst protecting the health of workers and communities."
The government would not reveal whether Midfield Meat's workforce had reduced while the negotiations continued.
The restrictions came into affect this week.
There was no time frame given for when a solution was expected to be reached.
