Schultz Organic Dairy has been producing milk in reuseable glass bottles for more than a year and owner Simon Schultz said he hoped their result encourged other businesses to look at more sustainable products and packaging.
"With this project we're at the beginning of learning what we can achieve and I suppose hitting that goal, we're probably up over 10 tonnes, it's proof in that the concept works and that through sustainble packaging we can actually have an impact on landfill," he said.
"10 ton for us and the industry is a drop in the ocean but if we can be successful in reducing our tonnage of landfill then perhaps others will see the success of that and consider it as well.
"That's what we ultimately want to see, we don't want to be the lone wolf or the only person doing it.
"We want to reduce our impact but we also want to encourage other businesses, be it dairy be it whatever else."
Mr Schultz said reaching the significant milestone gave him confidence to push ahead.
"This is generational, where hopefully every year we make a step to less plastic and more sustainable packaging," he said.
"We don't need people being 100 per cent perfect, we need everyone doing a little bit and everyone coming on the same journey at the same time, it's encouraging for us."
By moving to glass bottles the business estimated that each bottle was refilled on average seven times and the bottles were returned at a rate of 95 per cent.
