For the next six weeks, residents will not be able to leave their homes except for four reasons:
- food and supplies
- medical care or caregiving
- exercise
- work or education if can't be completed from home
Masks are mandatory to wear when leaving your house but children under 12 are exempt.
The Standard has received a number of questions regarding the return of stage three restrictions and we have answered them below with information from the Department of Health and Human Services.
Are we allowed visitors?
No visitors are allowed in homes.
Can we have gatherings outdoors?
No. Residents can only gather with one person from outside their household in public.
Can I see my partner?
Yes. Partners can visit each other, but they must follow the restrictions of the area when in a partners home.
Can I stay within my property boundaries without a face mask?
Yes. But you must wear a face mask when leaving your home.
Do I need to wear a face mask while driving?
No. But you must wear a face mask when leaving your car.
Do I have to wear a face mask to work?
Yes. You are outside of your home. Your employer will have a set of guidelines for the business.
Is the Childcare Permit for all Victorians?
No. The Childcare Permit is just for Melburnians. Childcare in regional Victoria are open.
Can I look after my grandchildren?
Yes. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said grandparents can look after their grandchildren under stage three restrictions.
Can I get a babysitter for my children?
Yes. Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed you can drop off and pick up your children from carers. But contact needs to be limited.
Can I send my children to childcare when I'm working from home?
Yes. Childcare in regional Victoria are open.
Can I visit my elderly parents at their homes?
Yes and no. People are not allowed visitors to their home. But it you remain outside and talk through doors and windows, you are allowed to visit.
Can I pick up a takeaway meal from a restaurant?
Yes. South-west eateries are open for takeaway and contactless services.
Can I travel to Melbourne?
If you are leaving your home for one of the fours reasons or to visit a partner, then yes you can.
Can I move house?
Yes. Real estate agencies and removalists will have restrictions to follow.
Do I have to go shopping alone?
No, you can go shopping with people in your households.
Are playgrounds closed?
Yes. South-west councils have closed skate parks and playgrounds, recreation centres, council-run accommodation services, libraries and visitor information centres.
Can I go fishing?
Yes. But you must wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Can I go bike riding?
Yes. Outdoor recreation is permitted within Regional Victoria, providing you adhere to physical distancing requirements and wear a mask or have one on you at all times.
Can I go to the Grampians for exercise?
"Unless you're a local, that means no four-hour hikes in the Grampians," Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said about stage three restrictions. Mr Andrews also said to use "common sense" when leaving your house for exercise. We are awaiting confirmation from DHHS about this question.
Can I go to the hairdresser?
Yes. It is business as usual for hairdressers. However beauty salons have closed.
Are personal house cleaners allowed?
Yes. Business Victoria stated "in-home care and in-home services, such as cleaners or tradespeople, are permitted to continue to visit homes" in stage three restrictions. Cleaners will have to wear a mask and follow social distancing regulations. Contactless payment is advised.
Are outdoor personal training sessions allowed?
The the personal training session is with one person and outside, that is allowed. People can only gather with one person from outside their household in public.
Are classes with special needs students able to run?
Yes. Specialist schools remain open.
Can I pick up my new car?
Yes, car dealerships are operating as usual.
Can I still look at cars in a car dealership?
Yes, as long as you wear a mask.
