The Lindsey Smith-trained Mystery Shot defeated Wicklow Town by a neck to notch up his fifth consecutive win for the astute trainer.
Four of Mystery Shot's wins have been in this campaign with Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michael Rodd in the saddle while the other victory was in maiden company at Warrnambool in December.
Smith told The Standard he thought the three-year-old would have won the race easier then the end result.
"It got a bit close - a lot closer then I had hoped for but Mystery Shot's won again," he said.
"It ended up being a good win. There's not many that win five in a row.

"He's done a great job to retain his unbroken record. I've got to give credit to our stable staff and I've got to acknowledge our jockey Michael Rodd.
"He's a world class rider and we're lucky to have him riding for our stable.
"I had toyed with the idea of going to the Rupert Clarke in a couple of weeks with Mystery Shot but now I think he'll go to the paddock for a well deserved break.
"I'll have a good chat to owner Brad Spicer but I'll be suggesting he's goes to the paddock.
"I'm confident he'll come back a better horse in the autumn."
Rodd copped a 14 meeting suspension for careless riding as a result of his winning ride on the undefeated galloper. Mystery Shot has won more then $210,000 in stakemoney for his connections.
Meanwhile, Ciaron Maher and David Eustace had a winning double at Caulfield.
They won with Flinders River and High Emocean. Former Brauer College student Teo Nugent, who is apprenticed to the Maher-Eustace stable had the winning ride on High Emocean.
Nugent gave a glowing report to Maher and Eustace after High Emocean's victory.
"It was my first sit on her," Nugent said.
"I think she's a filly with a lot of class. She's still a three-year-old but the way she put them away today without a cart into the race was pure class.
"She'll appreciate more the ground. I know she has won over shorter ground before and I know it was 2400 today but she definitely will lap up 3200 metres."
From her nine starts High Emocean has won four races.
