THE newly sworn in Minister for Local Government will not intervene with Warrnambool City Council in the wake of the chief executive officer's sacking.

It comes as the council revealed the acting CEO could be in the top job for up to 12 months.
A state government spokeswoman said CEO employment and management was a matter for councillors.
It comes after the chief was sensationally sacked on Monday evening at a meeting behind closed doors.
It has not been revealed how much the sacking of Mr Schneider will cost the city.
It is understood it was a 4-3 vote, with Crs Kylie Gaston, Mike Neoh, Sue Cassidy and David Owen voting for the motion and mayor Tony Herbert and Crs Peter Sycopoulis and Robert Anderson voting against.
On Tuesday a Warrnambool City Council spokesman said the acting CEO would be appointed to the position for up to 12 months.
"A process is under way to formalise the appointment of director of community development Vikki King to the acting CEO position for a period of up to 12 months," the spokesman said.
Mayor Tony Herbert did not respond to The Standard's request for comment on Tuesday.
Shaun Leane was appointed Minister for Local Government after the sacking of Adem Somyurek.
Meanwhile State MP Roma Britnell has called on the council to explain what the financial cost will be for ratepayers.
