Hamilton police Sergeant Pam Nicks said the man aged in his mid 30s had been arrested and charged with offences, including assault, causing damage and breaching his bail conditions.
He will appear in the Hamilton Magistrates Court on Wednesday for what is expected to be a bail/remand hearing.
Police allege that the man went to a Hamilton property to confront a person who made derogatory posts on social media.
"He's assaulted another local over comments about his family on social media," she said.
"He's attended there, confronted the man, assaulted him and caused a significant injury - he knocked out a tooth."
Sergeant Nicks said a neighbour's dog then approached the man in his 30s, who punched the dog.
"The dog was not seriously injured but the man is then accused of punching house cladding, causing damage to the house."
Sergeant Nicks said the man was already on on a community corrections order for previous offending and bail for an alleged unlawful assault.
"He was arrested, belligerent in the cells overnight and is expected to appear in court today," she said.
