The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed another sporting scalp with uncertainty around return to play weighing heavily in the league's move.
The decision was handed down at a presidents' meeting on Wednesday night.
It will be the first time in more than 70 years the region has been without Hampden league action. The last cancellation was the result of World War II.

The decision includes senior and reserves football, as well as open, division one, division two and division three netball grades.
A Hampden league statement said it was committed to running junior football and netball competitions if it was permitted under government regulations and guidelines.
It said no decision would be made on junior competitions and senior initiatives until the league received more clarity from the state government, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria.
The decision includes senior and reserves football, as well as open, division one, division two and division three netball grades.
"We expect to receive (guidelines) later this month," it read.
The statement said the league was also open to modified formats in both senior football and netball in 2020 under the same conditions.
The Warrnambool and District league will meet to discuss its season on June 24 while the Mininera and District league will meet on June 22.
The South West District league, meanwhile, cancelled its seasons last month.
