At 7am in Warrnambool it was just 0.7 degrees and felt like -3.3. The low apparent temperature was -3.5 at 5.12am.
Warrnambool is expecting a top of 14 degrees, Hamilton 13, Colac 12, Ararat 12, Casterton 14, Mortlake 14, Heywood 14, Portland 14, Port Fairy 15, Terang 13 and Camperdown 12.
Warnings
There's a frost warning for the south-west and most Victorian districts.
Temperatures at ground level can be many degrees lower than those recorded by standard weather stations, especially in calm conditions with very clear skies.
Severe frosts with temperatures down to -3 degrees, which can cause significant crop damage are forecast for Friday morning in parts of the state.
Frosts with temperatures down to -1 degrees are forecast for Friday morning in parts of the south-west, Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts.
There's also a road weather alert for Melbourne.
Reduced visibility in fog will make road conditions dangerous during Friday.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Reduce speed,
- Maintain a greater distance between you and the vehicle in front, and
- Turn on your headlights.
A high pressure system centred over north-eastern Victoria will slowly weaken today.
A cold front crossing waters south of the Bight will cross Tasmania today and reach the Victorian coast early Saturday.
The cold front will then slide to the east of Victoria during Saturday as a new high pressure system strengthens south of the Bight.
The second high will approach western Victoria late on Sunday and become established over the state on Monday.
