Macarthur police Senior Constable David Rook said the accident happened about 10.15am Thursday.
He said the hay feeder slipped off the jack and the worker was pinned by a leg.
"Fortunately a quick thinking workmate used a tractor and forks to lift the hay feeder and free the trapped man," he said.
"It would have been a lot worse if the injured worker was here by himself."
Senior Constable Rook said the worker suffered a "fairly serious" leg crush injury and was transported by an ambulance to the Warrnambool Base Hospital for assessment and treatment.
"The accident happened in very muddy conditions and the mud may have helped absorb some of the impact," he said.
"WorkSafe officials will investigate the cause of the accident."
