The formation of the Warrnambool Movie Club has proved a popular creation, with over 50 members having already joined.

The club was the brainchild of Florence Roney and her partner Jack Schiller, with the pair having established a club Facebook page.

This page is an active forum for club members to discuss all things movie.

On Sunday a group of club members came together via Zoom to discuss the Academy Award-winning film Parasite.

Ms Roney said selecting a movie that would be watched by members and then discussed would continue.

"Sunday was really good fun, to be able to share our thoughts on the movie was great," Ms Roney said.

"And from that the discussion went beyond the movie and was very engaging.

"I'm normally not a fan of foreign language movies but I loved Parasite.

"That is a really nice part of a movie club, you watch movies you may not normally.

"Jack is a real movie buff and we have only been in Warrnambool a couple of years.

"We thought forming the movie club would be a good way to meet like-minded people."

Ms Roney said the club was looking forward to attending screenings when the Warrnambool Capitol Cinema reopened.

General manager of Warrnambool Capitol Cinema Greg Gent said a re-opening date of June 25 had been set for the cinema.

Mr Gent said each of the three cinema spaces at the complex would be able to hold 50 people, which is in line with government restrictions regarding social distancing due to coronavirus.

Mr Gent said at this stage he was unsure what movies would be screened, although new releases are unlikely given the halt in film production because of the pandemic.
