But, soon the 28-year-old will be cutting his hair loose and raising as much money as he can for Beyond Blue.
"I started growing them in Year 12. I guess I was trying to stand out in some way," he said.
"I've become a bit known around town for the dreads.
"I'm surprisingly, incredibly nervous about cutting them off. I thought it would just a haircut but have same thing going for some time and now got to think of a new hairstyle, my head will be so cold."
Beyond Blue is a cause close to Mr Weston's heart.
During late 2019 he lost a good friend and his uncle to suicide in the space of a week.
"Mental health is more in the public eye than it used to be but that doesn't necessarily help people," Mr Weston said.
"People need to know where to go for help.
The money is a good thing, but I hope my head shave brings more awareness.

"It sounds cliche, but everyone needs to know they have these options.
"No one has to be 100 per cent happy all the time. Beyond Blue are a phone call away and they are there to be accessed."
The Lady & Anvil tattoo artist will lose his locks next Thursday, June 4, and has set up an online donation page through Beyond Blue.
"People shave their hair all the time and I'm known for my hair, so this is my platform to help," Mr Weston said.
"I'd been thinking about cutting my hair for a couple months when one friend noticed long how long they were. We had a quick chat and he emailed Beyond Blue.
"I just needed the kick to do it."
