Chatfield, 48, is one of six local men who joined in the challenge with Warrnambool accountants Fred Mahar and associates under the 'Men From Mahar's' group to collect funds for headspace Warrnambool. The money will be directed into men's health.
The Push-Up Challenge has grown in four years from four mates in their backyards to 130,000 individuals across AustralIa - all pushing for better mental health.
Chatfield, who played more than 430 senior games of football signed up to do 3046 push-ups over a three week period which ends this Sunday.
"Jon Burchell from Mahar's accountancy asked if I would be interested in the challenge and I jumped at the chance," he said.
"I've tried to stay fit after my footy career and one thing I love doing is push-ups. The goal for each of us in the group is to do 3046 push-ups individually in three weeks and I worked out if I could raise $1 for each push-up I would be going good.
"The other blokes in the group are all doing a great job with their push-ups. I still need some more money to get to my goal of $3046. I'm just giving a call out to my old footy mates to put in a few dollars for the challenge.
"All the money our group 'Men's From Mahar's' raise is going directly to headspace Warrnambool. It's a wonderful cause and headspace Warrnambool are doing a sensational job trying to look after men's health.
"There's plenty of blokes out there struggling with various things and this is a great way of helping them out."
The footy clubs Chatfield played for during his career include Warrnambool, Mortlake, North Warrnambool, Dennington, Koroit, East Warrnambool, Russell's Creek, South Rovers, Carmut and Deakin.
Donations for the challenge can be made at the Warrnambool accounting firm.
