Hamilton police Sergeant Mark Barby said officers discovered the 43-year-old was unlicensed and the motorbike unregistered.
His motorbike was impounded for a month and that process will attract impoundment fees of more than $1000.
"The rider was subject to a routine intercept at 3am just as he was leaving Hamilton heading back east towards Camperdown," Sergeant Barby said.
"He's expected to be charged on summons with a range of traffic offences including being unlicensed and riding an unregistered motorbike.
"He will appear in the Hamilton Magistrates Court on a date to be fixed."
Police said earlier this week that anyone driving after 9pm on south-west roads could expect to be intercepted by police with so few people on the roads due to coronavirus restrictions.
Officers also said there had been a number of people charged with drink driving after socialising as restrictions eased in the past couple of weeks.
