Hamilton police Sergeant Mark Phillips said there were no reports of people flouting the social distancing rules overnight on Friday.
Gatherings of up to five people were permitted in households from Wednesday and up to 10 people for outdoor activities including fishing, hiking and golf.
"We haven't had any reports of people breaching the new rules yet this weekend which is good," Sergeant Phillips said.
"Our COVID patrols are ongoing and we have units tasked all around the south-west for each shift and we will be checking out any reports of people breaking the rules."
Sergeant Phillips said anyone with concerns should contact police.
"If you think someone is doing the wrong thing or you do have concerns, give us a call and we can check it out," he said.
Portland and Warrnambool police also reported no breaches of the rules on Friday night.
Warrnambool police Sergeant Greg Cressall said he was "pleased with the way things are going at the moment".
"We had no reports on Friday but it will be interesting to see what happens today," he said.
"As part of Operation Sentinel we've got two units out and one supervisor out on the road, in addition to the normal patrols.
"They're our reassurance patrols and they'll be making sure that people are observing all of the necessary measures around physical and social distancing." .
The entire south-west region is COVID-19 free with all cases labelled inactive, which is a win for local healthcare services.
But residents are still being urged to not be complacent.
South-west police members are supporting the Operation Sentinel taskforce in response to COVID-19 across the local government areas of Warrnambool, Moyne, Corangamite, Glenelg and Southern Grampians
