The state Andrews Government has been nothing short of outstanding with regular informative information conveyed to the citizens. His 'No Nonsense' leadership has been of a true statesman.

"A true leader tells the people what they need to hear not what they want to hear."

Locally Roma Britnell has regularly emailed helpful informative information to citizens as has the Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism board.

I have also received emails sent by Corangamite, Southern Grampians and Glenelg shire councils which offer help and advise to their residents dealing with many areas of help available locally, state and federally.

In this time of deep stress and uncertainty it gives citizens much comfort to know the organisation which they elected to represent and care for them are actually aware of the unfolding disaster and the effect it is having on their community.

Locally businesses are severely challenged and employment is at best uncertain into the future.

The realisation of the importance of prudent and business like management of the City of Warrnambool over the past decade is now no longer able to be hidden. The financial cupboard is bare and the council has been nowhere to be seen. Their lack of communication and leadership for our community throughout this virus is nothing short of alarming .

Apart from eagerly taking monies from us all, what is our council doing for us now and more importantly into the future? The council elections cannot come soon enough.

Let's not put the return to local football in the too hard basket. There are way too many intelligent people in local leagues who can get together and formulate sensible guidelines for local games.

I know some of these suggestions are going to be met with criticism, but let's just get the ball rolling. Here are some ideas to get people talking - I think and hope most players would readily forgo player payments for this year given the circumstances. It's your time to give back to the games boys.

No spectators allowed on the ground. All spectators to remain in their cars during duration of football game (toilet breaks allowed). Only parents allowed to view netball with social distancing rules in place. Each club to provide distancing stewards (I think given circumstances majority of people will adhere to rules).

Volunteers to sell pies and canteen food car to car. Same could also apply for alcohol. As I write this, crowds of between 50to 100 people may not be too far off (perhaps limited numbers in clubrooms after games. I suggest home club to only host their own teams and opponents go back to their clubrooms). I know these seem like the easy ones, and there are a lot more complex scenarios to tick off. The movers and shakers of both our local leagues need to start talking and make this happen. As they say we are in this together. So let's not let the virus rule our lives.

Bring back the footy.

Warrnambool has been incredibly fortunate with the coronavirus, but how will that fortune stand up, when restrictions are lifted and people start mingling together and travelling from who knows where. I am glad Daniel Andrews has used common sense in dealing with the virus.

The virus is calling the shots not us, it will decide the end not us. So when do we know it's completely gone. We don't, nor do we know who around us is infected. Other states easing lockdown does not justify impatience and shallow reasons for us to do so. Let's wait and see what occurs in the other states, then go from there. Everybody is feeling the pinch, financially and mentally .

No-one is worse off than another, it's all relative. So let's all get a grip, assume nothing and just wait, because if we don't the waiting will be much longer, this will go on and on, because we simply couldn't wait.
