Hostar's victory in the 1700-metre race made it four wins from six races for local trainers.
Jockey Michael Poy guided Hostar to victory over Music of the Night (Damien Oliver) and Allano (Jordan Childs) in the Neville Wilson Series Final on Wednesday.
The popular local trainer said it was special to win a race at the May Carnival.
"A bit different this year but anyway we'll take it," he said.

"He was super today out the back, his form has been ordinary for whatever reason.
"He had a bit of an injury, has come off an injury.
"But three runs back and today he has found form which is good."
Chow will look for more opportunities for the five-year-old.
"He seems to enjoy a bit of give in the track now, maybe being a bit older," he said.
"So I'm sure during the winter there'll be something for him."
It was Hostar's third start at Warrnambool and his first win at his home track.
He picked up $19,800 in prize money for his connections with his victory.
