INTERSPORT Warrnambool floor manager Josh Moloney said items that were normally slow to sell, such as trampolines or basketball rings, had sold out.
"They're normally the type of things that sell at Christmas and are usually very slow moving," he said.
"Basically it's anything that will keep the kids outside and all the gym equipment."
Mr Moloney said treadmills, weights, yoga mats and other gym equipment would not be back in stock until sometime in May.
The Bicycle Centre manager Darren Harris estimated sales were up on this time last year.
"And last season we had a very busy April," he said.
Mr Harris said customers were looking for ways to keep active outside.
"A lot of people would be playing other sports at this time, they might be playing footy or going to the gym," he said.
Mr Harris said there were new customers coming through the door and people were also looking to get their bike serviced.
"We're seeing more casual riders, but hope they'll turn into more serious riders," he said.
"It's more families and trail riding."
Royal Bikes owner Kerry King said she and her husband Shaun had seen a big jump in riders getting their bikes serviced.
"It's people who've had their bike sitting in the shed and (they are) getting it cleaned up and on the road," she said.
"The servicing side has been quite busy. Typically we get a bit quieter at this time of year with the weather cooling down. We're finding our bookings are looking similar to summer time."
SportsPower Warrnambool manager Tammy Bartlett said with the closure of gyms there had been an increase in sales of fitness equipment. She said it was nice to see lots of people getting out and looking after their health.
Bicycle Network Victoria has advised that people can go for a ride alone, with one other person, or with people that they live with. But people should adhere to physical distancing guidelines and stay 1.5 metres apart if riding with someone they don't live with.
Basically it's anything that will keep the kids outside and all the gym equipment.
