Joel Best, 26, of Renoir Drive, appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Friday charged with drug trafficking and possession, as well as serious driving charges including reckless conduct endangering life, driving at dangerous speed and in a manner dangerous.
Senior Constable Scott Lenehan, of the Warrnambool police divisional tasking unit, said the alleged offending started on March 26 when Mr Best was observed by Hamilton detectives driving a white Holden Commodore sedan that police estimated to be travelling at more than 100km/h in several Warrnambool residential streets.
Police lost sight of the vehicle but attended Mr Best's house later that day.
Senior Constable Lenehan said Mr Best's partner answered the door but she was evasive when asked questions and said she didn't know who had been driving the white sedan parked in the driveway.
Mr Best came to the front door and said the vehicle had been returned to his house by "an unknown friend" just prior to the officer's arrival.
The court heard CCTV footage from a nearby property showed Mr Best driving the vehicle.
He was arrested on April 2 and conveyed to Warrnambool police station.
Police then executed a search warrant at his home which uncovered 12.8 grams of methamphetamine split across several zip lock bags, seven grams of cannabis, drug paraphernalia and $200 cash believed to be proceeds of crimes.
Senior Constable Lenehan said some of the drugs were located on a baby change table inside the house.
During a bail application, Mr Best's partner urged the magistrate to grant bail, stating she needed him home to help look after their premature-born baby.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Kevin Mullins said he accepted the woman wanted Mr Best home to help look after the child.
"Yet to an outsider looking in, your address looks like it is heavily being used to traffic methamphetamine," he said.
"You're trying to do the right thing by your baby yet the joint is a drug den."
The man was refused bail and remanded in custody until April 30.
