Warrnambool police Sergeant Martin Flannery said a "residual gas smell" at the Shell Coles Express services station was reported about 7.55am on Wednesday.
"Police have attended. Firefighters have put on their safety gear, checked it out and found the valve which they have utilised to establish where the smell was coming from," he said.
"They have isolated that and there is no danger. It is well precautionary."
Police and CFA vehicles are blocking the section of Raglan Parade directly outside the service station.
Police said the road was expected to re-open shortly.
Traffic was being diverted onto Japan Street.
Firefighters were also called to an unrelated gas leak at Canterbury Road in Warrnambool on Monday.
