About 3000 people in total are expected to take part in the Surf Life Saving Victoria Junior Championships, the Warrnambool Lawn Open Tennis Tournament and the Seaside Volleyball Tournament.
Mayor Tony Herbert said the city had a well-earned reputation for being an excellent host city for sporting events.
"Events like this are very important to the city and the economic activity that they generate is considerable," Councillor Herbert said.
"Competing at a high level and travelling go hand in hand, so while I am excited to welcome so many visitors to Australia's most liveable city, hosting major sporting events in Warrnambool makes it easier for more local competitors and supporters to be involved."
Cr Herbert said the council was proud to support the events, which wouldn't happen without the tireless efforts of volunteers.
Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club director of junior activities Clint Joseph said the club was excited to host the competition.
"We're hosting the nipper Victorian championships again and we're hoping to have about 1500 junior athletes down here on the beach on the weekend," Mr Joseph said.
He said about 80 local athletes would compete in the carnival.
Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Club president Kim Tobin said about 800 players from a number of states would compete in the 70th annual Lawn Open. She said the competition would cater to all ages, from under 10 to veterans.
"We have a strong field in the open singles in both ladies and mens," Ms Tobin said.
Meanwhile, the Warrnambool Volleyball Association will host its annual tournament.
Committee member Rachelle Casley said it was the 46th year the tournament had been held.
"We have 72 teams entered, which will bring about 600 people to the region for the weekend," Ms Casley said.
She said there were two teams from South Australia, three or four from Tasmania and possibly one from NSW.
Accommodation in the city is expected to fill to capacity over the long weekend, with dozens of supporters of the competitors coming to the city.
