Dee Ferguson and Lydia Kippe initially thought they would have a raffle to raise funds.
However, their bid to help people in bushfire ravaged areas quickly caught the attention of generous local businesses, who jumped on board to help.
Ms Ferguson said the takings from the day had passed $5000 very early on, with proceeds from the auctions still to be tallied.
The day had something for everyone, with auctions, kids activities and a drink or two for adults.
Ms Ferguson said people were making very generous bids on the items, both at the event and online.
"It started out with me deciding to have a raffle at my work," she said.
A number of people whose partners are volunteering at fires in Gippsland attended the event, which was held at the Lady Bay Resort on Sunday.
