Scales Of Justice and Begood Toya Mother resumed in the group two Australian Stakes last month with the Smith-trained galloper winning while the Daniel Bowman-trained Begood Toya Mother ran seventh.
Smith, who has stables in Warrnambool and Perth, said he had his fingers crossed for victory in the group one race but would be pleased if Begood Toya Mother could win the 1400-metre race for his large group of south-west Victorian connections.
"I'm hoping Scales Of Justice can win but I've got a healthy respect for Begood Toya Mother," he said.
"Punters have just got to forget Begood Toya Mother's run in the Australian Stakes.
"I've watched Begood Toya Mother's work on the training track at Warrnambool.
"Daniel has got him going really well. The other thing Begood Toya Mother has in his favour is his record around Caulfield.
"He's won three of his four starts there. Scales Of Justice has done nothing wrong since his win in the Australian Stakes but he's going to have to be at the top of his game to win the Orr."
Scales Of Justice worked sharply over 800 metres between races at Warrnambool on Tuesday and the multiple group one-winning trainer was was happy with the work.
"It was good work by Scales Of Justice on Tuesday," Smith said.
"We'll look at running him in the Futurity Stakes at Caulfield on February 22 after his Orr Stakes run if everything goes to plan."
Adelaide Ace will run in the group two $200,000 Autumn Stakes for Smith.
Fellow Warrnambool trainer Aaron Purcell saddles up Guizot in the Carlyon Cup.
Meanwhile, Winslow-raised Ciaron Maher has the short-priced favourite Cellsabeel running in the $2 million Millennium for two year olds at Warwick Farm.
Maher, who trains in partnership with David Eustace, has five runners in the prelude and preview races for two year olds at Caulfield including A Beautiful Night, Tanker and Rathlin.
