Warrnambool police Sergeant Danny Wright said the white ute evaded police officers at about 12.15am when they were approaching it.
"We are trying to establish if it is the same vehicle that was stolen overnight on Wednesday," he said.
"The ute took off at a fast rate of speed and near the RSL narrowly missed colliding with a white stationwagon.
"We would also like to speak to the driver of the white stationwagon."
The 2010 white Mitsubishi Triton ute stolen overnight Wednesday - registration number XUJ-566 - is still missing and police are trying to locate that vehicle.
"We are going through CCTV footage from the railway station and the RSL to try connect what happened near the RSL to the ute that was stolen," Sergeant Wright said.
Offenders entered a garage, took keys overnight Wednesday and drove off in the Triton.
Anyone with information is requested to contact the Warrnambool police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
