Warrnambool's Liebig Street closed to pedestrians with the street a hive of food and drink activity.
As rain fell on the warm night Warrnambool organiser Donna Gladmen said she was rapt crowds had arrived despite the weather.
"We have been pretty lucky with those big down pours missing us," Ms Gladmen said.
"If I wasn't working I'd be drinking champagne and dancing in the rain."
"Thank you so much for the all people who have stayed out here in the rain, we are very appreciative."
She said most businesses at the southern end of Liebig street participated in the event, which Ms Gladmen estimated was in at least its 35th year.
Ms Gladmen said events planned in Warrnambool for Saturday including Jazz in the Gardens and Movies Under the Stars would at this stage go ahead, with rain forecast for the morning and early afternoon.
