Poy, who has outridden his country claim, is among a group of talented apprentices that include Fred Kersley, Laura Lafferty, Teo Nugent and Will Price that will be riding in the $22,000 race over 1400 metres.
Baker said Garbo needed a strong rider to get the best out of the lightly raced four-year-old.
"I chased up Michael to take up the ride," she said.
"Garbo has been a slow maturing horse. He's a bit head-strong and needs a strong rider and that's why I called on Michael.
"Garbo's had four runs in from a break and I've been happy with each run. His last run to finish second behind Predicated was excellent.

"Garbo carried 3 kilograms more then Predicated and finished the race off strongly over the concluding stages. I think with a bit of time Garbo will develop into a handy galloper."
The running rail for the eight race program is out six metres for the entire circuit.
Warrnambool Racing Club racecourse manager Daniel Lumsden said the track will be rated a good four.
"We've put 37 mls of irrigation on in the last week," he said. "We had one-ml of rain on Monday morning. We had thought we may get a bit more rain but the forecast has changed and there's nothing on the radar."
The first race is due to start at 1.00pm.
