The batsman is hoping his fifth-placed division one team can claim a couple more victories before the Christmas break.
O'Connor, whose side has two wins and two losses, said he was learning every week as skipper.
"Just about field placing and when to change bowler and bring on different bowlers," he said.
"When to attack and when to defend with the bat."

Noorat will face third-ranked Bookaar on Saturday - the team it knocked over in round one.
O'Connor isn't taking the match lightly.
"It's a pretty big game, we were able to knock them off in round one and they obviously had a few out," he said.
O'Connor said Bookaar was missing opening batsman Eddie Lucas and Charlie Lucas in the opening round.
Eddie scored 64 not out in his side's victory against Terang last weekend.
"It'd be good to get his wicket early," O'Connor said.
"We'd like to see the back of him early."
The first-year mentor said his team's focus was on claiming early wickets.
Cobden openers Kaplan McCann (34) and Matthew Smalley-Harris (36) were able to keep Noorat's bowlers out early in the piece last week.
O'Connor has been pleased with his group's batting performance.
Nick Kenna and Stephen Staunton both finished 46 not out last week in the loss to Cobden.
"Nick has probably been the pick of our batsmen and Steve had his first game last week so that was a good effort," O'Connor said.
