The protesters had a detention slip for the Federal Education Minister suggesting he hadn't been paying enough attention in science class.
Group spokesperson Steve Veale said they were not targeting Mr Tehan as an individual but rather his role as education minister.
"He should be the guardian of truth and knowledge, and imparting this to the youth of today," Mr Veale said.
"We see the irony that recently had 11,000 scientists signed a paper calling for the governments of the world to recognise there is a climate emergency.
"Instead (the Federal government) like many governments around the world are in denial and are not telling the truth on the climate emergency."
Mr Veale said the group had issued Mr Tehan with a 'detention notice'.
"We did invite (Mr Tehan) to come to detention today for not paying attention to the climate scientists," he said.
"Today we will have a member of our team, dressed up symbolically as the faceless governments of the world, and that person will be writing line in detention."
The protesters were happy to receive support from pedestrians walking along Kepler Street.
Paul McCarthy and Patricia Hoey, from Pakenham, said the protesters were being very kind to Dan Tehan.
"They are holding a very peaceful, quiet protest at a time when there is a climate emergency," Ms Hoey said.
Mr McCarthy said he felt all of Mr Tehan's parliamentary colleagues should be placed in detention.
"It should be both sides of politics as well," he said.
