Ros Russell took a shocking video of Warrnambool Caramut Road between Purdeet Road and Minhamite-Caramut Road while her husband was driving with their three children in the back.
The video shows the family car navigating vast potholes and dangerous, crumbling asphalt. At one point the car has to veer completely into the opposite lane to avoid potholes which some described on Facebook as being "deep enough to plant your veggie garden in."
The video was shared by South West Coast MP and Shadow Roads Minister Roma Britnell and garnered scores of comments from locals sharing their own experiences with the substandard roads.
"This was taken a week ago by Ros Russell and I'm told it's now in an even worse condition after the rain we've had," Ms Britnell posted on Thursday.
"You'll note the reduced speed limits - this seems to be the Andrews Labor government's approach to fixing our roads - rather than increasing funding, they stick up a sign.
"If you've got examples of roads having speed limits reduced, or road repairs falling apart after a few weeks, please email me photos and video - it all helps apply pressure on the Andrews Labor Government to actually do something to fix our roads and increase funding."
One person who travels up and down the road at least twice a day said that stretch of road was neglected when the rest of it was upgraded.
"Not long ago this road was upgraded to dual lane, which was a fantastic win for everyone who travels along it," they said. "My biggest hate is the fact that this particular section of road was not fixed like the rest.. why? You can clearly tell where they stopped and restarted again. It is so dangerous!"
Another pointed out that it was "especially bad" when drivers have to cross over on the other side of the road.
"I'm not prepared to drive over these holes and wreck my car. I have seen them come out and fill them but as soon as the trucks drive over them they go back to being wrecked again," they said.
Ms Britnell's petition calling for road upgrades has more than 8000 signatures and will be tabled to parliament soon.
It comes after the state government's refusal to pitch in to the Princes Highway upgrades worth millions between Warrnambool and Port Fairy.
