The show's president Chris Snell was pleased with the turnout on Saturday, while treasurer Simone Watts said families such as hers had four generations attending.
"It's very family orientated," Mr Snell said.
Port Fairy's Ashlea Handby and Tara Halliday each attended with their three children to see the animals and to enter the art and craft competitions.
"It still has that old feel of a traditional country town show," Ms Halliday said.
But one grassed pen wasn't a typical animal show. Eight border collies sprung through the air like gymnasts while chasing frisbees.
The Flipping Disc Dogz were semi finalists on Australia's Got Talent this year and co-owner Beau Pearson said some of the dogs could perform "world first tricks".
"The community has been super excited to see us," Mr Pearson said.
At the show's centre arena were show horses and jumps competitions.
Horse section organiser Jenny McLean, who hasn't missed a show for 40 years, said the horse shows were among the "main traditions".
"Olympians and three-day event riders all come from shows like this," Ms McLean said.
"The Port Fairy show is part of the town coming together, it's really important."
