General manager David Mills said the club was unlikely to make a call until Saturday morning given the Western District's unpredictable weather patterns.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting up to 15 millimetres of rain on Friday while Elders is tipping between 10 and 20mm could fall in Warrnambool.
"It is no different to any early season show, it's the same right around the country, you're in the hands of the weather gods. Sometimes they work with you, sometimes they don't," Mills said.
"You have a bit of a look a week out and keep an eye on the Elders app but you learn to focus on getting everything ready.
"If it happens it happens and if you have to cancel, you cancel.
"We've all been in the game long enough now to know if we do get washed out it's usually a considerable loss for the club but it's part and parcel of what we do.
"If you stress about that stuff you probably take your eye off the ball."

Mills said the club would make a "smart decision" in the best interests of the track, drivers and supporters.
"The typical nature of Warrnambool's weather is it could be raining in the morning and we could still race in the evening," he said.
"We won't make any calls on it until we know what it's going to do when we get up on Saturday morning.
"We would not be silly about it because we're not going to destroy the joint first meeting up and ruin the rest of the season. But obviously our number-one priority is to get the show in."
Mills believes up to 50 cars could feature in Saturday's Sprintcar Association of Victoria Series round at the Allansford track.
It is the third round of the series which started in Moama before stopping at Avalon last weekend.
Mills said Warrnambool duo James McFadden and Jamie Veal would be the headline acts at their home track but would have competition.
"Grant Anderson has had two wins in the opening two rounds and is in good form and is a bit of a Warrnambool specialist as well," he said.
Mills said visitors Lachie McHugh and Jock Goodyer, the young Tasmanian who is a WSS contracted driver for 2019-20, would also be hard to beat.
"David Murcott started the season last year with a couple of strong wins and the Victorian title last year at Warrnambool, so he's back as well," he said.
"Then we have all our local guns with Corey McCullagh, Peter Doukas and Grant Stansfield and all these young drivers who are stepping up to the plate."
